Work together

Be on track again

despite the tackle the actual President Of The United States, Obama, has to admit we need to review our Western-lated expectations to rule him. US democracy ideas introduced to Europe starting from Wilson are no more valid to rule a complexity evolved world we have to face today. As we all know Americans did a lot to free Europe twice the 20th Century to put it back on track. From there America did receive a lot of accusations to tamper domestic affairs in local countries in Europe and abroad. But we still need to admit that no more than US is able up to these days to guide the line of global policy. This rule of “Global Policeman” to the US hasn’t been accepted ‘til now by many countries. Neither Western-related, nor western enemy-classified ones. The hegemony of the US presence on the global catwalk is not at last due to the dominancy of US initiatives in base of their military power. What we need here in Europe (indeed all the Western countries) is to improve our rule in managing global issues. The last 15 years US was forced to intervene due to incapacity of their NATO allies in Europe. US-ruled missions to save global status need more than farytale tellers. Both parts of the Atlantic Ocean need to reassess their basics how to work together without threatening their historical links they have worked for. Even as Europe and the US after WW2 and Clinton after the Cold War we all need to point out new ways to put peace into things and people. The whole world is getting more and more inter-connected. And we need not only the unilateral decision of the White House to keep up better, but more than ever a global teamwork.

A lingered thought on GWB and Iraq

Times ago many Americans did regret from the decision when they decided to support the “War On Terror”. Americans got hurt in their heart, NYC and they were right as they decided to to something against. But the Bush administrations did not take care about details. It’s the same show as ever: quick moves to achieve quick results. But they got trapped…. and from there began the “War On Terror” agony that reflected also to the US itself. Tell me, who is nowdays more controlled, we or our “enemies”? However, the most fatal mistake of GBW Company & Co. was not to understand the signs in time to look for a “different solution”; instead of seeking out a more diplomatic ongoing with the Arab world they rattled their sabers and intensified the “clash”. Western countries contributed to this “mistake” of the US by dividing themselves whether to support the USA or not.

Debate on Nuclear Power in Italy / Dibattito sul Nucleare in Italia

E N G L I S H
Nuclear power, haven’t we it always in our power lines?

The debate about nuclear power plants popped up recently has it’s not quite little bit of “embarrassment” tagged. How many Italians know that 15% of the energy needed to run Italy must be imported from neighbor countries like France, Switzerland and Slovenia? And tell me who doesn’t know that there are tenths of active nuclear plants situated around Italy? Why all this confusion and embarrassment? A small part of the energy we use every day is produced by nuclear facilities anyway. And we have been always more prosperous and prodigy with energy consumption. We lament on high energy bills, on Black Outs and other. Can You tell me the percentage of the Italians who honestly apply to the citizen’s energy saving behaviors known as “simple advices”? You see, this situation is not easy. We banned nuclear power from our territory, but a small amount of the power that we use at home is indelibly tagged “Nuclear Made”. So what should we do?

There are different ways to solve the issue: from solar energy to geo-thermical plants, from Wind power to nuclear plants. Life is a continuously strike the balance between the one and the other. The ideal solution doesn’t exist. I suppose to set up a nice mix of all energy producing technologies we have available. But we should prefer renewable energy solutions and use a “integration quota” of fossil and nuclear energy in the mix. The ground to decide should be reducing global warming.

I T A L I A N

US Presidentials 2008:Should We Race Due To The Race?

Newsweek has spotted out an interesting argument. The race of the Presidential
Candidates. Would America be ready to accept a dark President? A question nearly never
mentioned by US media. I say may the best win the price. Reducing this campaign into a
"Black or White" issue might be the same as returing to the Apartheid in South Africa. It
would be a strong signal to the world if the US would accept a dark President. Many
changes started in US and spreaded into other Western countries. So may America once again
be the "Leader" in exploring new areas...

More ASEAN action please!

As a citizen of an EU country I’m negatively touched how the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) handles the Myanmar cyclone disaster. Like the EU ASEAN does only recommend and please the junta of Ex-Burma to let pass help to the suffering regions in the south who were hit the hardest by last week’s cyclone. But here we need not words but action. While I’m writing this post many Burman people die because they don’t get this help they urgently need. The ASEAN should unify it’s effort to force the junta to let at least ASEAN help workers into the regions. I can understand concerns of the rulers about “Western Saboteurs”. But the same time they fail to help their people they need to cut down and accept help from outside. The distribution of international aid could be organized by humanitarian helper sent by ASEAN. I focus on Thailand and other countries having “good relations” to the rulers of Myanmar. This natural disaster could be the “consolidation test” that ASEAN can be a valid inter-state community. I don’t want to hail for crushing down the the regime of ex-Burma. However, the only thing I think we need to do is to convince the Military rulers to accept at least “half-international” help directed by ASEAN. Therefore USA, EU and other countries offering help should also encourage the South-Asian Association in pushing itself in the role of an active player. Cyclones and other natural cataclism hit regular the member states of ASEAN. To put in place a “help-task-force” able to manage emergency in a proper way of independence might be the best way to stick together the ASEAN members. Regarding a post junta era we need caution and diplomatic cleverness, not bombs with stars and stripes…

Il dilemma delle grandi istituzioni

Lettera a Sergio Romano del Corriere Della Sera

Caro Romano,
